About Patio Tents

A shopper wants to know…
how to treat a patio post wood that has termite?
I have a patio in the backyard. One side of it connects to a fence-like wood wall that has some star jasmine vine climbed onto it. The fence-like wood wall is supported by a few wood posts (7-8 feet tall) about 3-4 feet between. The termite damage for outer most wood post is pretty obvious. So my question is: how do I treat it without tenting the whole structure (which would kill my star jasmine)? Would apply some wood filler or painting help? How can I at least slow down the termite spread?

Is there a way to screen in a patio without building walls for the screens?
Like most homes built around the time of mine there is a wonderful covered patio out in the back yard. My wife and I love sitting out there but hate the bugs. Last year i tried to enclose it by using what you would usually put on like a pop-up tent. I used curtain rods to hang them, sadly the winter was not good to the velcro or the screens themselves. I like having it open for the dogs and for entertaining in the back yard, but when we are not using the back yard to entertain I like to have it as an outdoor space, free of bugs if possible. I don’t want to build walls for it, but I am not opposed to some light construction. Any thoughts?

You can make frames for screen out of pvc pipe or out of aluminum like the frames around the screen on your windows. Store them in the winter and get them out in the spring, they will last as long as the screens on your window.
To make either one, all you need is a hacksaw, tape-measure and a roller sold for less than $5, plus the screen material and frame material. PVC or the Aluminum frames are cheap at any home center store.
You measure the length of the opening, cut two pieces of frame that long, measure the height of the opening and cut two pieces of frame that long. Insert the corner pieces in the frame and put them together. Lay the screen over the frame and use the roller to push the plastic cord into the groove on the frame. Trim off the excess screen.

Any ideas for blocking snow from blowing on my patio? Canvas curtain contraption???
I have a balcony above me, but am thinking of hooking up some kind of curtain for the winter so the snow doesn’t pile up outside my sliding glass door. Does anyone have an idea as to what I should do. I want it to be heavy enough that I can hook it with grommets and it can hang to the ground or be staked out a little like a tent to withstand some of the crazy snow we will get. I’d like to be able to sit outside at my patio table but won’t be able to unless I can screen in (temporarily) the area to block out the snow. How do I make it? What material? Is there a store that will make something custom? I’m just looking for ideas. Thanks.

JoAnn fabrics or another fabric store should have canvas, plus grommets. You could probably use heavy shower curtain hooks or some kind of hinged keychain thing to hook it to the bottom of the balcony above.
If you want a finished look, anyone with a sewing machine (maybe even a dry cleaners) could add a hem.

Where can I buy one of those tent-like clotheslines of the past. They have like cyclone fence post?
They fold out as a square, when done clothes up, like a patio umbrella

It’s been a while since I’ve been stateside, but I think I recall seeing these at the major hardware store in my area. Try Lowe’s or Home Depot, or ask at your local hardware chain.
