Which fixing is best for the job – The force is straight out/pull (tension?). Shield anchor or poly resin?
in a rendered brick (London) wall.it holds a 4mm steel rope with a span of 7m, which holds the tail edge of a 25m sq tarp canopy along its whole length, and is currently fixed with an M8 raw bolt eye shield anchor, doing the job fine, but the bolt has pulled out about 6mm over the last couple of days. The shield is static, just the bolt and presumably cone is pulling. Maybe I didn’t tighten it enough – but didn’t want to over tighten. It has been windy so there will be a constant on/off pull out force. Steel rope initially tightened with turnbuckles. Any ideas or tips appreciated. longer/deeper resin fixings to a staple plate appear to be the gold standard, but a quick fix or more efficient re fix (gripfill the hole?) would be better. Or just keep tightening?

Never easy to know what you have got going on behind render, which can cover a multitude of sins. The fixing is only going to be as good as the material you are attaching to no matter how fancy dan it is, in this case you could be into lightweight block or a rough mortar joint.
If it’s stock brickwork and you are into a brick rather than a weak lime mortar joint you might be able to get away with re- tightening, although if youar near an edge there is a possibility of it crumbling. Worth trying first – slacken off, tap back and retighten.
If that doesnt do it , and if you can get to the back of the wall my inclination would be to use a length of studding, an eyenut on outside and regular nut c/sk below internal plasterwork possibly with a spreader plate. This should be highly resistant to pulling stresses, and doesn’t really depend on the condition of the wall. That’s a fair size sail you have going on there so you are right to be cautious about the fixings.

can i get sued for and act of god?
We had a yard sale this weekend and I left the canopy out over night and my neighbor is saying it flew and the tarp chipped his winshield which is false it was in my side yard. But they are crazy.. the4y are always messing with somebody it is like everyone is out to get them. Just wondering if I should get and attorney lined up. I would try to reason with them but that really is not an option with them. PLease help.
CanopyTentStore.com Staff Says:
The situation you described wouldn’t be classified as an “act of God” because it most likely arose as a result of the canopy not being securely fastened to the ground. That makes it a case of negligence on your part.
However, unless someone witnessed the tarp damaging the car, he will not be able to prove it, and you are not liable.
At most, this is a small claims case, so you won’t need a lawyer.

What kind of paint will adhere to polypropylene tarp and protect it from UV deterioration?
I have built a 450 square-foot canopy made of polypropylene tarp. I want to paint the upper surface to protect it from UV deterioration. What kind of paint and/or primer will adhere well to polypropylene, and protect the tarp?
My thoughts so far are to prime with either Zinsser 1-2-3 or Rust-oleum Plastic Primer, and then apply a topcoat of either a 100% acrylic paint (perhaps a urethane “floor paint”) or an elastomeric paint such as Techniseal Roof Coating.

You are out of luck on this one….sorry.
You cant paint a poly tarp with anything.
You might have used a UV rated canvas such as sharkskin or sunbrella.
Yes, pricey, but will last 5 years versus about 6 months or less for your poly tarp.

Can we grow hemp and grow bamboo like other countries do and?
Replace a lot of plastic with canvas and bamboo? Canvas which can come from hemp can cover what the plastic tarps now cover, also boat canopies, carports, etc. We would return to a manufacturing country again. ( Of course the government would have to ease up or eliminate the heavy tax involved that drives companies off-shore) Bamboo in construction is stronger than steel and can be used in many decorative ways.
Doubting Thomas, you got doubts again? and are nondescript!
Tracy they can when they ease up on the “drug” laws. The people still rule and they need to be knowing so! The government is just like a computer, garbage in – garbage out!
To Ruth and others, I get fish poles from an area here near Starke Fl. where it grows pretty fast.
CanopyTentStore.com Staff Says:
Yes we can grow that stuff, if we could get the federal government to approve hemp, and get the states that have the right climate for bamboo to start producing it.
